So I basically spent the entire two-week Icelandic and Norwegian
cruise in the great outdoors.
Great being an understatement.
I was blown away by the beauty.
Please forgive the insane amount of photos posted. Without them my text wouldn’t do the
description justice. Our first
port was Reykjvik, Iceland- the capital. Cute yet small city with lots of murals and art all
over. Very modern due to volcanic
incidents and rebuilding in the past.
Most homes have corrugated sheet metal exteriors and the streets are
very tidy. This was a two-day port
and spent day 1 meandering around the city. Check out photos of the lovely opera house and sculpture on
the water. Day 2 several of us
ventured out for a soak in the Blue Lagoon. An enormous hot spring- you must get there early when it
opens because it fills up fast.
Pristine and bright blue.
Those photos will come off of Suzanne’s camera eventually and will be
shared.
Akureyri, Iceland was spent on an epic journey hiking up a
ridge. We can sign out crew bikes
for the day for free. So Justin,
Ryan and I took them out to the ridge, tied them up and then went on a somewhat
difficult hike up. No trail. Literally wandering through fields of
sheep and rolling hills. When we
got to the top to eat our lunch the wind was INSANE!!! It was the strongest winds I have ever
felt, nearly knocking me over while trying to walk. Ryan’s inflated cheek and flappy face skin is a testament
the wind speed. But the hike was
beautiful. You will be happy to
see that I did not forget my adventure underwear at home, which I wear
traditionally on my outdoor adventures.
Photo credit to Ryan on the flowers. It is really nice to get so far away from the ship that you
can’t even see it and lose all tourists in the process.
I love my new job!
