St. Kitts or St. Shits....Depends on how you look at it.

Not going to lie.  Never been a huge fan of St. Kitts.  I’ve been on other contracts and I’ve typically found it to be the day I do my laundry and take over the guest gym.  But you’ve got to figure there must be something to do here or we wouldn’t dock.

I figured just because the island doesn’t seem to have much to offer doesn’t mean the fish are lousy right?  I still needed to finish up part of my course for PADI so I book one of my classes here and Aleida joined.  We just happened to pick an incredibly choppy day.  What a boat ride that was!  Our giant ships don’t notice the waves the same.  I felt pretty green by the time we returned to shore.  Nothing an after scuba donut couldn’t fix, but the next time just incase it was a boat dive I brought Dramamine.

We did find a fantastic hike.  For once it was a cheap cab fare, no entry fee and no guide required.  We’re pretty savvy folk.  I’d like to think that we can follow a path!  This was a spectacular adventure through the rainforest.  At one point monkeys were throwing things down from the trees at us.  It was so lush and a great workout!  What a different sort of lush than I am used to from the Pacific Northwest.  The moss and palms and fiddle head ferns.  Also these amazing trees with their beautiful buttress roots!

This wasn’t just any hike we were hiking to the rim of a dormant volcano at Mr. Liamuiga.  Exciting!!  I wasn’t sure what to expect.  But looking down from the rim it was just as green as the hillside we climbed up.  Our troop always packs a “messy” (crew mess) snack pack from whatever they have at breakfast, which is usually burned boiled eggs.  Yes it is somehow possible to burn boiled eggs.  We always have to smuggle our hiking treats off the ship.  But I plan ahead and stock my cabin with apples and peanut butter and trail mix.

Another option for an easy day is to take over the Marriott Resort.  Take a cab over to the hotel.  Walk in like you own the place and they won’t realize they haven’t charged you the $30 day fee.  Hey we order food and drinks!  And we help them use their wifi.  And!…provide them with eye candy for their hotel guests J

A typical crew hangout where everyone is calling home, and hungry for internet.
